Users of the WoofTrax Walk for a Dog app can support their local shelters and rescues by donating the very shoes worn while using the app.

Our Spring 2016 WoofTrax Shoes for Shelters & Rescues drive was a huge success, raising more than $125,000 for participating animal organizations. Our Fall 2016 drive kicks off September 1, and we’re increasing our goal—by November 1, we hope to raise more than $200,000!

WoofTrax Shoes for Shelters & Rescues is a great opportunity to raise additional money at no cost to your organization. After our coaches have helped you set it up, you run the drive. We send you the collection and promotional materials, and you work with one of our dedicated fundraising coaches to help you during the shoe drive. We also share useful tips and best practices. When the drive is done, we truck the shoes away and ship them to micro-enterprise organizations in developing countries.

Here are just a few of the hundreds of participating organizations that earned money during our Spring 2016 drive:

  • $5,461 – Menominee Animal Shelter, MI
  • $1,998 – Dogs as Family, OK
  • $1,051 – Edison Animal Shelter, NJ
  • $1,224 – Merced SPCA, CA
  • $1,701 – Valley Humane Society, AZ
  • $3,159 – Saving Grace Animal Rescue, MD
  • $2,496 – Long Island Golden Retriever Rescue, NY

“We raised $2,400 collecting more than 5,800 pounds of shoes,” said Susan with Goshen Humane Society in New York. “Probably 90% of the families in Goshen and at least five surrounding counties donated shoes. This was a fun way to do fundraising through the community with a lot of great volunteers.”

One Determined TDECU Employee Inspires A Community to Give Back.

(Lake Jackson, TX) – To support the Brazoria County SPCA Shoes for Shelter fundraiser, TDECU’s Janie Schwartz-Shaw coordinated an organization-wide shoe drive and encouraged Members, employees and the public to donate gently-used shoes to their TDECU Member Centers. Janie is dedicated to living out TDECU’s mission of people helping people, and while gathering her own donations, she took it upon herself to reach out to her coworkers for help. Sparked with just a few emails and her unwavering compassion, the idea grew and TDECU was proud to support her efforts. She was able to collect over 600 pairs of shoes in all shapes and sizes to donate to the Brazoria County SPCA Shoes for Shelters Fundraiser.

“I came across this fundraiser specifically for animal shelters and it sounded very realistic with a win-win-win effect for our Members and employees, for the shelter, and for the eventual recipients of all those shoes.  Spring cleaning your closet was never so easy!” said Janie Schwartz-Shaw, TDECU Compliance Officer.

The Brazoria County SPCA, in partnership with WoofTrax and Funds2Orgs, gathered gently-used shoes to be redistributed to developing countries.
